Composite Pool Deck & Outdoor Upgrade
Tony and Doha came to us wanting the most cost-effective and best-looking way to wrap their pool. Rather than go down the high-maintenance timber route, we designed a composite deck that would sit neatly around the water and hold up to Melbourne weather for years. The result was a clean, low-maintenance poolside area the family could enjoy straight away, and it grew into a full outdoor refresh across the property.
Project Overview
This build turned a bare poolside into a proper outdoor living space. We went with composite decking in the Antique colour from the Urban X range by Bright Deck, chosen for its looks and low upkeep. To make sure it lasted, we drilled 50 footing holes, each dug well over a metre deep, before building the frame and laying the boards with concealed fixings for a seamless finish. The job ran over a few weeks, on and off, and Tony and Doha were rapt with how it turned out. They were happy enough to have us back to build a matching deck across the front of the home using the same boards, replace their old Colorbond fence, and finish the pool area with a frameless glass pool fence.

Our Process
Consultation & Design
Sat down with Tony and Doha to understand the budget and the look they were after.
Recommended composite decking in Antique from the Urban X range for durability and low maintenance.
Footings & Groundwork
Drilled 50 footing holes, each well over a metre deep, for maximum longevity.
Set the footings to give the deck a solid, stable base around the pool.
Frame & Structure
Built a level, square subframe on top of the footings.
Made sure the base was sound before a single board went down.
Decking Installation
Laid the composite boards around the pool, working the water's edge for a tidy fit.
Fixed every board with concealed fixings for a clean, seamless finish.
Finishing & Safety
Installed a frameless glass pool fence to meet Australian pool safety requirements.
Walked Tony and Doha through care and maintenance so the deck stays looking its best.
Beyond the Pool
Built a matching front deck using the same Urban X boards.
Replaced the tired old Colorbond fence to tie the whole property together.
